A message from AVC Clint Lord

Over the past year, we’ve taken important steps to enhance the services our campus community relies on and to better support the university’s mission. Two cross-departmental groups were formed to guide these improvements. One group is updating our vision and mission statements—set to launch in January 2026—to more clearly reflect our commitment to delivering exceptional service. The second group reviewed our uniform policy to promote consistency, improve safety, and ensure high-quality service across all units.

To use our resources more effectively and provide greater transparency around service expectations, Custodial Services adjusted its service model this summer, discontinuing individual office cleaning. We are now benchmarking all custodial service levels using APPA standards so customers can better understand what to expect based on available funding. As we continue evaluating how to best support campus needs, any additional changes will be communicated once finalized.

This year, we also introduced a new APG Learning by Leading program focused on power washing building entrances. The effort brought together members of our BMS and APG/Grounds teams, along with student interns, to refresh high-traffic areas across campus. The team successfully completed work on 20 buildings during the summer, and we look forward to expanding the program—further improving the cleanliness and appearance of campus spaces.

To strengthen the overall customer experience, our leadership team conducted a comprehensive review of our organizational structure to ensure greater efficiency and better alignment of roles, responsibilities, and services.

Looking ahead, we invite the campus community to participate in our annual lighting walk, conducted in partnership with the UC Davis Police Department. This event plays an important role in identifying areas where lighting improvements can enhance safety and visibility for everyone who uses our campus.

We remain focused on aligning our budget with current resources to support long-term financial sustainability—an important foundation for delivering reliable, high-quality service into the future.
