See a broken outdoor light? Report it!

If you notice an outdoor light that isn’t working, text (530) 574-4100. Include the pole number (found on the light pole) and the location.

For example: “Pole #123, north side of Shields Avenue near Lot 25.”

If possible, attach a photo of the light. This helps Facilities Management quickly identify and fix the problem.

Students, staff, and community members headed out across campus on Jan. 21, 2026, for the annual UC Davis Campus Safety Lighting Walk, an evening event focused on identifying areas where lighting could be brighter or better maintained.

Approximately 75 students and staff joined the walk, which included routes with recently upgraded lighting on Shields Avenue, Hutchison Drive, the Sprocket bike path, and pedestrian paths south of Lot 25.

The event began with snacks, free flashlights, and bike lights. After a brief welcome and opening remarks, the walkers split into groups and toured campus. Along the way, they pointed out dim spots and lights that weren’t working, flagging areas for improvement. The walk also gave community members a chance to connect with others who care about making campus safer after dark.

UC Davis Facilities Management oversees more than 13,000 exterior lights campus wide. Feedback from events like the Campus Safety Lighting Walk play a real role in shaping improvements, many of which are direct results of past walks.
